Place: W Studio
Six months ago – just in time for IDS16 – W Studio opened their stunning new showroom in the trendy fashion and design district at Castlefield and Caledonia. W Studio moved into a stylish complex located right at the corner, the plaza was designed by IDS Alumni Giannone Petricone Associates, with the interior being designed by Alan Pourvakil, Founder and Creative Director. With over 28 years in the carpet business, he was able to channel his in-depth knowledge of the art and design industry into a highly stylized space with an exclusive, gallery-like feel.
Making the new showroom a must-see destination for clients all across Canada, Alan Pourvakil went with an open-concept floorplan, allowing clients to walk around the airy showroom and appreciate the colours, textures and complexities of each carpet. Like a fine art gallery, negative space is maintained around each carpet that is hung from all-white walls, allowing the beauty of each carpet to stand out. Carpets are also displayed on the dark brown, wood grain floor, lending a more personalized, at-home experience to clients. Clients are able to walk around the showroom and view carpets placed on the floor in the same way that they would be placed around their home.
The open concept floorplan was also important to Alan Pourvakil so that W Studio could host events, from charity functions to fashion shows. Carpets can be left on the walls to create an amazing acoustic effect, and artworks – like during the Avenue Road Art School showcase – can be mounted on easles throughout the space.
We are proud to welcome W Studio back to IDS17 for their 19th year. During the show, they will be launching their collaboration with Montreal designers, Les Ensembliers. Click here for more information.
