Nichetto Studio, Ben Gorham and Salviati: Decode / Recode at Milan Design Week 2017

Occupying several warehouse spaces across Milan Decode: Recode was an immersive experience of unique blown-glass objects specifically designed and crafted for Milan Design Week. The installation was a collaboration between Nichetto Studio, Ben Gorham and Salviati, which has been working with traditional Murano glass for over 150 years.

The exhibit explored how centuries-old methods can be combined with contemporary aesthetics.

Named Pyrae, the installation featured 53 totems of stacked and illuminated modular glassware. To create the collection, IDS Alumni Luca Nichetto first designed a set of 25 base modules, which were then made using one of ten traditional techniques, in 15 colours. This made for thousands of possible unique combinations.
