Matthew McCormick’s Mila Collection Launches At IDS
Matthew McCormick, is a multi-disciplinary design studio, based in Vancouver, Canada. The immense natural beauty of Vancouver is an important backdrop as it inspires Matthew to explore the boundaries between lighting design and art in a contemporary way. In addition to creating bespoke, sculptural lighting installations, all McCormick’s products are made in Canada by a network of young manufacturers and craftsmen.
Matthew’s strong point of view and hands-on approach to design mean that he is constantly looking for new ways to make lighting more interesting from a sculptural point of view, without losing track of practicality and the incorporation of up to date technology: “You can immediately recognize the magic created in any space when lighting is done right — the blend of shadow, form and colour cast on the architecture is no accident,” says McCormick.
Each piece in the new collection is inspired by Matthew’s surroundings, and is characterized by a strong graphic language that conveys an exciting tension between light and heavy, fragile and strong. Matthew’s fascination with shapes and proportions, along with his profound understanding of how light behaves within architectural spaces, help create Matthew McCormick’s fascinating body of work.
Matthew’s new collection, MILA will be launched for the first time in Canada at IDS18.
