An Evolving Design Platform: Designing IDS Toronto
What does it take for a global design show to surpass the expectations of an exhibitor or attendee’s experience? This is what Brooklyn-based FIRM Architecture and Design (FIRM a.d.) is working on with IDS Toronto to achieve in January 2019.
Founded by James Khamsi in 2010, FIRM a.d. works at the intersection of architecture, urbanism and art; they are dedicated to the expansion and preservation of public spaces and networks in cities. And if IDS Toronto’s attendee experience can be considered a microcosm of public life, FIRM a.d. has been developing situation-specific exhibition and activation spaces through careful observation, research and analysis.
Khamsi’s portfolio includes various interior projects, an inflatable theatre for Art Toronto, interactive public art installations and collaborations with other architects where heightening the sense of place through materiality remains a high priority. FIRM a.d.’s belief in “design for the mind” is about creating environments with unique effects and experiences.
New this year, IDS Toronto is expanding and evolving our current offerings to include IDS Contract, a hyper-curated exposition and conference focused on all verticals of design, including workplace, healthcare, hospitality, retail, education, public space and government. This exciting 2.5-day addition to IDS Toronto will complement the main exhibit hall fulfilling the needs of the design community. Apply today and get your product in front of our curatorial team.
